Details
Botanical Name
Canarium commune
Benefits and Qualities
Its fresh, spicy odour recalls lemon, with some green harmonies. Its virtues are associated with the respiratory tract because this oil agreeably purifies living spaces.
Production
Essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the gum of elemi, exuded from canarium luzonicum Miq. and other assimilated species.
The Plant
There are several species of elevi which grow and are cultivated in the Philippines. The trees are large with smooth, white bark, and produce a fruit whose oil used to be substituted for common almond. The same fruit is used to make bread in Indonesia. At the onset of the rainy season, after incisions have been made on the trunks, the trees' gum is harvested.
Caution
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep away from children.
