Details
Botanical Name
Eucalyptus globulus / L.
Benefits and Qualities
Eucalyptus globulus essential oil effectively combats all respiratory afflictions, such as asthma, emphysema and, of course, bronchitis. It is an expectorant but also a truly precious bactericide and antiseptic agent. This essential oil is more effective in massage, spray, or through the skin than taken through the mouth, and its benefits are even more evident when used in blends. Synergies: eucalyptus radiata, Scots pine.
Production
Essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the leaves and branches of eucalyptus globulus L. (Myrtaceaes), followed by rectification to standardise the concentration of eucalyptol.
The Plant
The eucalyptus family has acquired, over the course of decades, exceptional capacity to survive in the extreme conditions of their country: Australia. They can grow to 100 metres and form immense forests which, seen from afar by the first explorers, led them to name the island-continent ""the country of blue fog."" Likewise, in northern environs we sometimes call it ""the blue resin tree."" Introduced in Europe in the 18th century and used to sanitise swampy areas, its medicinal qualities were also exploited.
Caution
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep away from children.
