The Plant
Undoubtedly originating in Asia Minor, laurel came to prominence in Greece in the wake of the cult of Apollo. It had a preponderant place in the ancient ceremonies, where its mythological origin is always present: the nymph Daphne, transformed into a laurel tree for having spurned the advances of the Sun god. An excellent representation of glory, everyone knows that the laurel crown represents the triumph of athletes as well as the sacred inspiration of the poets. Nonetheless, the herb knows to lend nuance when it delicately perfumes Mediterranean cooking.
