The Plant
Better known by the name of exotic verbena, litsea cubeba is a tropical shrub whose small fruit have nothing in common with the pepper except the form, which explains the qualification ""cubeba."" Because, for the rest, the leaves and flowers release a delicate lemony odour evoking freshness and leisure moments. Litsea cubeba is cultivated in Southeast Asia. The Chinese consume but little of it; this, however, does not prevent them from being its number one grower.
