Benefits and Qualities
By virtue of its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic properties, myrrh essential oil eases sore throats and helps with problems of the pharynx. Its favoured area of application is the mouth, where it is used in mouthwash and applications to fight gingivitis, inflammation of the membranes, and lesions deriving from dental protheses. It also facilitates relaxation exercises by helping to awaken each person's feminine characteristics.
Production
Essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the gum-resin of commiphora myrrha Engler (Burseraceaes)
The Plant
Myrrh is a traveller. It begins by escaping from the trunk of the shrub which contains it and forms a resin whose qualities did not escape the Asians. The Egyptians associated it with the process of embalming. They used it to make rejuvenating facial masks. Myrrh is equated with a desert caravan, even that most famous journey of the Wise Men who came to offer it to the baby Jesus. Later, included in the potion given to Christ before the crucifixion, myrrh was expected to ameliorate the pain.
