Benefits and Qualities
Myrtle essential oil is first of all remarkable for its effect on the bronchio-pulmonary system. In this scheme of things, myrtle essential oil can be helpful in treatments for cessation of smoking. It is also known to have a tonic and astringent power on tissue and a positive effect against bruises and haemorrhoids. Synergies: eucalyptus, ravensara, pine, fir, lemon, geranium, palmarosa.
Production
Essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the leaves of myrtus communis L.
The Plant
The presence of myrtle in Greek mythology is more than a footnote: It crowns Venus and is consecrated to her. The doctors of Antiquity did not hesitate to associate it with their practice. The shrub, nonetheless, is not rare in the Mediterranean, especially on Corsica where it strongly perfumes the brush. During Roman times myrtle seeds were ground to take the place of pepper, which was overly expensive. Today, it's in preserves and liqueurs that the Corsicans know how to profit from it best.
