Details
Botanical Name
Origanum compactum / Benth.
Benefits and Qualities
It is imperative to dilute oregano essential oil in a fatty oil to attenuate its force and to never apply it directly to the skin or add it to bath water. Given these precautions, this oil reveals itself to be a major anti-infection agent, an immunostimulant, a fungicide and hypertensive to be taken on journeys to use against malaria, tropical fevers, and dysentery.
Production
Essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of the plant Origanum campactum Benth. (Labineaes)
The Plant
Oregano spreads across the arid flanks of the mountains to which its name is associated by the greek oros (mountain) and ganos (joy). Antiquity readily included the herb in its pharmacopia rather than in its cooking and, as with its cousin marjoram, assigned it the task of symbolising happiness and joy.
Caution
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep away from children.
