Botanical Name

Petroselinum crispum / (Mill.) A.W. Hill

Benefits and Qualities

Parsley leaf essential oil is useful for its anti-epileptic qualities. It is also a good antiseptic to use in cases of urinary infection. Rich in vitamins, parsley encourages lactation and tones uterine muscles. In the form of a poultice it heals wounds and insect bites and stings.

Production

Essential oil obtained by steam distillation of the leaves of petroselinum crispum (Mill.) A.W. Hill (Ombelliferes)

The Plant

This herb, so familiar in our kitchens, has not always had this worldly and well-met character. Quite the contrary: For the ancient Greeks, parsley was associated exclusively with the beyond. They used it to decorate the tombs in memory of a mythological hero, Archemorus, slain by the serpents. The Romans were the first to use the herb in fine cooking, for therapeutic and decorative purposes, and to purify the breath from the odour of alcohol.

Caution

Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep away from children.
