The Plant
Mint furnishes a legendary and mythic body of information, as varied as there are hybrids of the plant. Sometimes linked to hell for the love Hades had for it, sometimes to the worship of Demeter, goddess of life, mint is seen as ambivalent. The Middle Ages adopted a similar attitude. Mint is simultaneously vaunted for its purifying and rebuilding qualities but cannot escape being condemned for its exciting influence on the senses. Today, its perfume associates mint completely with the idea of freshness.
