The Plant
Sarriette comes from the Mediterranean basin. Along with thyme, rosemary, marjoram, and oregano, it forms the most celebrated quintet in Provence. The Romans liked it so much they propagated it all over Europe, while the monks of the Middle Ages left it out of the Index on the pretext of its reputation as an aphrodisiac. It's true that the Egyptians gave it pride of place in all of their love potions.
