Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, wintergreen essential oil is the oil of choice for muscular problems, cramps, tendonitis, and arthritis. Essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of fresh leaves of gaultheria procumbens L.

The Plant

Wintergreen is a bush with rampant stems that grows in the forests of the United States and Canada. (It was a Canadian botanist who gave it its name of gaultheria.) The Inuits of Canada tradiationally take it as an infusion against migraines or aches and pains of any kind.
