Benefits and Qualities
Ylang ylang complete essential oil is particularly well suited to aromatherapy where it is used as a powerful tranquiliser, blood-pressure regulator, and antispasmodic. It eases the painful effects of stress, irritability, and mental contraction. Ylang ylang unbinds tension and encourages a kind of insouciance that enhances the exchange of caresses and the pleasure of the senses. Synergies: ginger, bergamot, sandalwood, citronella, patchouli, orange, and mandarin.
Production
Essential oil obtained by fractional hydrodistillation of the flowers of cananga odorata (Lamarck) Hook, J.D. and Thomson T. forma genuina. The different parts derived are mixed to yield the complete oil.
The Plant
From Madagascar to the Comoro islands, ylang ylang - ""the flower of flowers"" - is the object of age-old attention. The inhabitants of these islands mixed it with coconut to create a pomade called boori-boori, a natural skin moisturizer and antipyretic. Europeans of the Victorian era used it to create the celebrated ""Macassar Oil,"" for hair care. Today, the flower of flowers is sought after by perfumiers and, even more, by aromatherapists. They have understood the inner well being to which it holds the secret.
