Botanical Name
Rosa Damascena L.
Production
Absolute obtained by extraction from concrete of rosa centifolia L. by ethanol, freezing, and filtration. The ethanol is then eliminated by evaporation under vacuum.
The Plant
The flower used for the absolute is the Damas rose, cultivated in Turkey, Moracco, and Bulgaria. This variety comes from Persia, carefully tended for centuries. The rose bush only flowers one month a year and the blossoms must be gathered very early in the morning because daytime temperatures will cause them to lose up to half their fragrance. Five tonnes of petals are necessary to obtain one kilo of absolute. Rose absolute, with its sugary, honey-like, fresh, and somewhat cherry odour, is on the top rung in perfumery. It has a heart-base note.
Caution
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. Keep away from children.
Principes aromatiques
